That's how long my commute was this evening. Freezing rain, idiot drivers and a terrible rush hour combined for a hellacious drive. The only thing that saved me was the video below. I was talking to my brother on my cell phone when I guided him to the video... just hearing it over the phone made the drive less horrible. As a matter of fact any time I watch the video I can't help but smile. It's like getting a rainbow and sunshine enema from the Lollipop Guild and the Care Bears; working together in perfect harmony.

Side Effects!
Apparently, generic Percocet, Oxycodone, besides relieving my reoccuring kidney pain can and may sometimes cause you to wake up in the middle of the night, to worry about unpaid bills, unfinished scripts, what book you are going to read next, 'I wonder if Disney ever released The Cat From OuterSpace on DVD, in addition to spending almost three hours tossing and turning in bed, scratching yourself trying, in vain, to soothe that phantom itch that has been racing across your entire body ever since you awoke on the verge of a panic attack.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It!
Ah, cable television. You are a magnificent invention. You are a horrible curse!
Last night as my wife headed off to bed I watched Mathew Broderick save the world from Thermonuclear Global War in 'War Games';a movie I have not seen in years. 'Shall We Play A Game?' Shortly after that I was sucked into, and I hate to admit this, Mel Gibson's 'Apocalypto'. I watched the last days of the Mayan Empire, and the struggles of Jaguar Paw against tribal enemies.
Before I know it the clock reads 3:15 AM. I just sat in front of the TV for so many hours I am embarassed to say. As I climbed into bed with my wife I kept thinking of all of the things that I could have done instead of watching cable television. Maybe it would've been more productive to read a book, plan out my week's lessons, or even work on a script or two.
Damn you Comcast

Singing Shakespeare
Last night Sara performed a few songs at a lecture on Shakespeare's works converted into musical theatre. Along with a handful of other performers she sang songs from West Side Story, Boys From Syracuse, and Kiss Me Kate between informative blurbs by the guest speaker.
Let me tell you, my wife was one of the stronger performers. Several people afterwards complimented her on her voice. (It's beautiful.) Since Sara has only been in one show in Annapolis she is fairly unknown in the Naptown Theatre Scene. I heard a woman, I'm guessing she was a big-wig at Colonial Players, ask Sara's former director about her... the director explained that she was in the summer show, '...with the long blond wig.' The big-wig instantly knew who the director was talking about, "Ooh, that was her? She's wonderful. Great voice." I just sat back and smiled.
A funny little side note, the performance was at the Colonial Players, a local theatre here in Annapolis. The last performance I attended there I believe I was in high school, and the space brought back a few memories.
As I was waiting for my wife to accept the praise and adoration of the audience a guy crept up to my seat and asked me, "Excuse me, did you go to Towson University?" Turns out that this guy David (I believe) went to college with me. I don't believe we knew each other but he remembered seeing me in shows in college and knew several of my friends. He was shocked to see me at a performace in Annapolis because he'd thought I was out in LA. Now,I'd visited LA several times since graduation and know many people acting out there but I never made it past Chicago on my westward migration. The fact that this guy whom I don't really know had heard that I was acting out in LA made me laugh for some reason.

Bittersweet
adjective
1. both bitter and sweet to the taste: bittersweet chocolate.
2. both pleasant and painful or regretful: as in, 'the stone in your right kidney isn't very big at all... no the one in your left is much bigger.'/ A two hour school delay that you find out about 35 miles into you 43 mile commute.

I'm Rubber... You're Glue...
She stepped out of the library carrying a Lizzie MacGuire book. When I asked her what she was reading she referred to it as a 'real book'. She further explained it had no pictures. She claimed to love books, and that books were, 'good for you'. I agreed and told her I was reading a book, Jules Verne's Journey To The Center Of The Earth, and that I, too love to read. Then she asked me if it bothered me when peopled called me a bookworm.
My response was, "There's worse things in the world than liking to read books."
She said that I had a good point, and that she might be considered a bookworm to many but she guessed she didn't mind so much anymore.

A Day Late...
Should've thought about it yesterday but I missed it. Today I was checking the news and there I saw a blurb about the Challenger Space Shuttle. Yesterday was the anniversary of the tragedy. JANUARY 28th 1986, the Challenger exploded 73 seconds after lift off killing all seven astronauts aboard.
I was sitting on the Principal's bench, punishment for being disruptive in class, and from my perch I could see into the front office where they were watching the shuttle launch. I watched the shuttle explode, and sat in shocked horror. I was ten years old, and, at the time, my dream was to be an astronaut. I don't remember the walk back to class, or even the bike ride home that day. I do remember coming home and my mother was sitting in front of the televisionwith tears in her eyes.
It's hard to believe that it has been over 22 years since the explosion. The two most replayed news footage clips I remember from my childhood are 'Joe Theisman's Leg' and 'The Challenger Explosion'. To this day both images still haunt me.

*Schadenfreude!
A huge smile spead across my face as I look past the blinking lights and see the state tropper walking up to the driver's side door of the same black pick up that had almost rear ended me earlier, when traffic slowed down, and then rocketed past me with a dirty look; as if it were might fault he was going 25 miles over the speed limit. Hehe... take that!
